Grill 21
Nampula's culinary reference. Charcoal grills, fresh Indian Ocean seafood and an atmosphere that celebrates the best of Mozambique.
About the Restaurant
"Where charcoal meets the Indian Ocean — Grill 21 is more than a restaurant, it's an experience that defines what eating well in Nampula means."
Founded more than two decades ago in the heart of Nampula, Grill 21 has become the city's essential dining reference. The house stands out for its careful choice of ingredients — the seafood comes straight from the waters of Nacala and Angoche, and the meats are grilled over hardwood charcoal, a tradition kept since day one.
The space combines rustic stone walls with a sophisticated, intimate atmosphere. The tables on the outdoor terrace, shaded by century-old jacarandas, are the most sought-after — especially at the end of the day, when the Nampula sun paints the sky gold.
The menu, renewed seasonally, celebrates Portuguese-Mozambican fusion: from piri-piri prawns to Trás-os-Montes meat skewers, through peanut matapa with prawns and crab curry with coconut rice. Every dish tells a story of cultures meeting.
